Our Wonderful Garden

Here in the Hive over the past two weeks we have been spending lots of time out in the garden accessing a range of activities. We have been providing the children with a range of stimulating activities outdoors. We have been getting creative in the sand pit using both our hands and natural objects to mark make.

Our Next Steps

This week in the Warren we have had three learning intentions, like every week the learning intentions come from our learning wheels and they are based on our next steps.  The cells on our wheels which are not highlighted green or are orange, means that we are working towards the desired learning outcome.

Our Wonderful Mummy’s

This week in the Warren we have been getting creative making cards and bird feeders for our Mummy’s. Last week the children had a high interest in mark making using the pens. Cat decided to take this interest and provide a heart template for the children to decorate.

Being active in our baby garden

This week we have been spending lots of time in our baby garden enjoying the mud. We have been exploring our mud kitchen using our fine motor skills, scooping up the mud and placing it into our bowls with both metal and wooden spoons to stir it around.

Feeding Our Caterpillar

Some of you may have seen our Hungry Caterpillar on the far wall in The Warren. The Caterpillar is made out of colourful balloons. The Caterpillar has been our main focus for Forest School this week. Firstly, we got suited and booted ready to go out into the paddock. Some children were able to find our own coats and even able to put our wellies on.

Exploring the Warren

This week as Early Years Practitioners’ we have been focusing on supporting our little ones, in feeling safe and secure in their new environment. We have been guiding and encouraging them to explore their new surroundings, being able to freely access and find their own individual choice of toys.

Floating away

Last week In the Warren we got very creative, using glue, crayons and glitter to decorate sails for our tinfoil boats. Firstly our Early Year’s Practitioners Lou, Abbie and Cat cut out tiny triangles for the children to use.

I See

This week we have been focusing on a story called “I See”. This is a book written by Charlotte and Jayne, who are the founders of our lovely nursery. Charlotte and Jayne grew up on a farm and think highly of what the farm environment can give to young children growing up.

Mark making and Exploring our New Surroundings

A Walk Amongst the Farm Animals

This week on our Forest School sessions, we have been on long walks around the farm, visiting all the animals. We’ve been focussing our ability to manage our own risks, carefully walking around the farm yard on the uneven ground without falling over, steadily walking up the steps to the office to visit Bobby bird and navigating around the kissing gate on the way to visit the chickens.

Mountains of paper fun!!!!

This week in the Warren we provided the babies with lots and lots of shredded paper, we hid a range of animals in among the paper. The babies explored the shredded paper, using both of their hands to search through it to find the different animals, the babies picked up the animals and were able to make the noises.

Magical Porridge

This week in the Warren we have been getting creative in the paddock, using natural materials, water and pots and pans to make porridge. We have been developing our knowledge of the surrounding looking at the different grasses, plants and trees.

Bean Bag Throwing

This week the children have been engaging in a number focused activity where we have had three hoops, numbered one, two and three. We have been encouraging the children to throw the bean bags into a number and identify the number when they can.

Snack Time in The Warren

In the Warren snack time is an important part of our day, where we fill our tummies with a healthy treat. Snack time is also a time when we can learn lots of skills, hand  and eye-coordination when feeding our self as well as being able to hold our cups steady when drinking from it.

This week in the Warren we have been getting very creative for our mummy’s to thank them for all their hard work. We have been helping Cat mix up salt dough, and then we have been creating individual hand print as a keepsake for our mummy’s to remember us in our early years.

Car Painting

This week in the Warren we have been getting creative, using the cars to create marks on paper with paint. We have been developing our creative, and physical skills.The babies have been using their gross motor skill by picking up a car and placing it onto the paper, they then pushed the car forwards and back to make marks on the paper.

I spoke to Norton Hill students this week.
It was our chance to tell them all about Early Years Education during one of their careers assemblies.

It’s not easy trying to sell a career that is underpaid and undervalued within our society. .

This amazing totally handmade tree was crafted at the weekend by Charlotte from the Den, along with the gorgeous
A get together before Christmas. .
We went to @fosse_farm for a Christmas wreath building session and Sue put on such a lovely evening with nibbles and drinks and Robbie Williams playing.

It can be hectic at this time of year but Sue kept everyone
On Friday night Tammy and Sophie from the Hive and the Den taught us how to “Pom Pom” (not sure if that’s an actual verb) and gave us a taster at being a majorette for the night.

I think we all incurred a few bumps and bruises but
Introducing Bramble, causally mooching around her native habitat. 
She lives on site at Free Rangers and the children have all got to know her well.
