Last week we found that a lot of the children had a high interest in the newspaper balls that we had put out in the tough spot.
They were climbing in and out of the tough spot and using the cardboard boxes provided, then using the newspaper also provided to empty and fill the boxes.
We also had some textured sand out on the creative table with toothbrushes to move through the sand to make marks as well as exploring the texture of the sand. The children were interested in the sand and added bowls and spoons themselves. They began to empty and fill the bowls using the spoons as well as the tooth brushes to mix and fill the bowls.
Out on the table we had set out some paint along with some toy animals in order for the children to do some animal printing through the paint.
This encouraged language for the children. They were talking about what animals they had and the animals that were set out in the paint. They were also able to tell us what noises each animal makes.
This week in the Warren we have set out various activities based on our children’s interests on the previous week.
In the tough spot we have added coloured, see through paper to make it more inviting. This had encouraged the babies to pick up the various coloured paper and look through it. This can encourage speech about the different colours that are there as well as simple conversations such as “hello” etc.
We have the textured soapy sand out again this week as the children were incredibly engaged with it last week. We have made the sand almost feel foamy simply by adding bubble bath. We have got the spoons and bowls still out in it and they are still using them to empty and fill the bowls.
The babies also had a high interest in our small, finger puppets. This week we have used a cardboard box to turn in to a theatre. This encourages the children’s imaginative skills and speech. We can speak about noises that the animals make and the children can also make up their own simply stories.
