What we've been up to in The Den in June.

July 14, 2017 Tam

Key Topics/Themes, what has gone well? (Child led focus)

Making dens – using material to create enclosed spaces, problem solving, working together, measuring and estimating.

Sun safety – understanding the effects of sun on our bodies, learning how to independent apply sun cream and becoming aware of our bodies and how to cool ourselves down.

Cray fish! – Thank you to Fred and his family who brought some locally caught cray fish into nursery. These cray fish are invading our waterways and killing our indigenous species, children have looked closely at them noticing features and used descriptive language.

Indoor water play – using containers to fill and empty, exploring cause and effect and maths concepts.

Cars and ramps – exploring cause and effect, speed and ordinal numbers.

Climbing frame – moving in different ways and exploring risk. (blog)

Magnetic mathematical shapes – exploring cause and effect while building 3d models.

On Friday night Tammy and Sophie from the Hive and the Den taught us how to “Pom Pom” (not sure if that’s an actual verb) and gave us a taster at being a majorette for the night.

“A world where children and adults need time, time to stop and take a breath, to be bored, to not be on call every moment, to be quiet, thoughtful, joyful without the need for things, to be at one with the environment, to be content.
