Last week in the Burrow we were lucky enough to get out and about to watch the tractors bringing in the last of the harvest. Instead of just talking about tractors, which the children love to do, we decided to trek across the fields to get an up close view of the tractors. The Burrow children were really excited to run around the fields and the tractors would pass by with full or empty trailers and then drive up and down the field collecting the clover, which had already been cut. It was a great opportunity for the children and also a good chance to practise the children’s listening skills! For example when the tractors would pass by us we would all sit down in a group to ensure that we were safe and the children were really good at this. They also enjoyed holding hands with their friends which was also great when crossing through the car park safely.
The impact on the behaviour of the children was also noticeable, and the children all sat fascinated by the tractors, feeling the benefits of being outside. We had lots of learning opportunities to talk about the different colours of the tractors and trailers, what jobs happen on the farm and also counting the tractors.
We then headed back to nursery, running across the fields and waving goodbye to the tractors. What an exciting morning!
