For three weeks now in the Burrow’s planning we have had out the sand in our tuff spot, when I first placed this inside I never knew it would be so popular with the children.
When you come into the Burrow the sand tray (tuff spot) is situated in the far left corner (behind the toy storage), this was placed here so it allowed all types of children to explore, whether very confident or a little bit shy. It allows all the children to involve themselves that little bit more, so instead of joining in whilst passing by they play there as that was what they set out to do.
During the week nearly all the children explore the sand, whether they would like to explore it with some dinosaurs or use different types of pouring/measuring objects. In the few weeks it has been out I have noticed that there is a different resource in there on different days, yesterday there was a Duplo block and today a paint brush. The thing is with toddlers, they will find anything and everything to explore with and the same when it comes to mark making. The other day I found a sock in there, but put this down to a child just wanting to put it there (although sock painting is a good idea).
I would strongly advise this activity to anyone who has children or is working with them, it is such a simple yet such a surprising activity that your children will absolutely love it!
