We’ve had a really good week on Forest School and luckily we haven’t had to put waterproofs on every day of the week due to warmer/dryer weather. Hooray!
So this week we headed round to the big barn to have our snack, this week all the children have been trying different types of fruit, including Physalis and Cucumber. After our snack we spoke to the children about what we will be doing, we explained that it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday. It’s a day that we show our mummy or the special people in our lives that we love them very much and we can make them presents to say thank you.
After snack we headed over to a table that was covered in soil, we did this to make it easier for the children to access and scoop. We demonstrated to the children different way’s that they could scoop the soil, whether it’s in their hands or using the cup. In our roles we see lots of different ways children transport objects and resources, watching the children put the soil in the pot and seeing the way they do this. As adults we are different as well, my way of thinking would scoop it up with my hands whereas some other people may decide to use the cup.
Once we filled our pots up it was time to put the seed’s in, the children made a hole with their finger to ‘make them nice and cosy’ as we told them. We then covered them over and gave them a little bit of water ready to take home J
The children showed lots of interest and loved handing over their pots to their parents, with big grins and lots of talk; ‘I made that’!
Good Luck to you to growing your sunflower, and as one parent said “I have to remember to look after it now”.
