It has been really great to see so many children involved in mark making out in the paddock.
Stereotypically, boys can often be reluctant to take part in mark making but this week many of our boys, and girls, have shown interest.
Firstly, using chalks on our chalk board surrounded by the lush tall grasses, the children had a large enough canvas to be able to lean in and use those big arms movements necessary for learning to control their mark making equipment.
Then, not content with the natural colours that our environment had to offer, some children decided to enhance nature’s pallet by adding colour to the tree trunks, dock leaves and even really carefully along the long but thin blades of grass – a natural canvas!
Some children gave meaning to their marks – “X marks the spot so no one hits the tree”, and some children showed an interest in the print in our environment by mark making alongside the signs that we have around our garden.
The space and resources available allowed the children to be expressive and creative whilst exploring the world around them.
