At Free Rangers I am the Burrow Forest School Guru but that doesn’t stop me being involved with things the Burrow do whilst I’m out of the room! When I come back I am often greeted in the garden by children asking me to ‘play’ with them and often I think “I wonder how they expect me to play?” shall I be a fireman? Build a train? The list can go on depending on which children have asked me.

In the garden is where a lot of different play happens. We have many opportunities for children to engage with this environment such as bikes, the sand pit, the mud kitchen and of course the Burrow children have the opportunity to play under the arch with set up activities, linked to their interests. It’s great to see the EYFS being put to the test by all of the social, physical and imaginative elements our garden and the world that surrounds us can provide.

Now the warmer months are here we find the Burrow children can’t wait to get into the garden and nor can the adults without spending too much time layering up. We are all getting used to applying the sun cream and hats, ensuring we are all ready to open the door and ‘free play’.
