Jayne is cooking up a storm in the Free Range kitchen

So I'm Jayne and I have been in the catering industry since I was 16. Whilst at school I used to pack vegetables in a local green grocers. On leaving school I studied Catering and Hospitality at Bath College for 4 years where I gained my level 1, 2, 3, 4 and also advanced Business Studies level 1, 2, 3 and the cherry on top was the highest diploma in sugar craft.

I have worked as Head Chef at local pubs and golf clubs gaining huge experience in all areas of cooking from your everyday roast to an a la carte dinner for 300.

I also used to make and decorate wedding cakes which I love but no longer find the time.

I decided to gain experience in Business Management when I successfully won the role as Deputy Manager of Bath University. I loved this role and gained huge experience in the financial running and business development arena. But after 15 years I missed the cooking!!! I wanted to plan but also cook which is when the chef's role at free rangers was advertised. So here I am and I absolutely love it!!! I can't wait to show you all my cooking know how and make the children's eating experience exciting, fun, tasty, interesting and of course healthy and good for them.

I have always been a local girl, Radstock born and bred here to stay I think!!! I have a son, Harrison who is 8 going on 32 whom I adore completely. He's cheeky, funny, clever, loving and is my world. I've been married to my hubby Dan who serves as an engineer in the British army. We don't see each other as much as we would like but that is the nature if his job. At least we don't fall out! We love our camping trips away, we have a camper van which is the 2nd love of our life and love nothing more than a BBQ, open fire and a chat under the stars!!

We also love our animals, we have a dog, Archy the lab, who is simply adorable. I love my garden and I so like to potter outdoors. I'm also a bit of a cleaning fiend ( I drive my hubby bonkers) so you'll often see me with a duster!! We are also keen walkers so long trips are often followed by pub lunches.

It's really important we offer children the very best start with regards to healthy eating. At free rangers we offer local and organic produce which is of the highest standard and I plan to use this to the maximum by cooking quality, healthy and fulfilling dishes. I also believe strongly that children eat with their eyes so I will make the meals colourful, interesting and fun to ensure they get the very best from meal times. Eventually I would love to be able to pick our own, home grown produce alongside the children. From Thursday of this week I will also be doing a cookery class where we will be carrying out lots of exciting things. Please do look out for the the sheets comming home explaining what we got up to. I will also be working towards our Food for Life Award. This is a very prestigious award for the catering industry and I know we can achieve this with the menus and produce that we will be offering, I will keep you all informed,

My aim at Free Rangers is to ensure children love their food. Personally I want to continue to learn and experiment with healthy dishes, that way I know I am doing my very best for the children. I also want to help Free Rangers grow and become an even bigger success than it already is.
