You might be aware that Free Rangers recently completed The Department of Health's "Healthy Outcomes Certificate in Early Years". As part of this, we organised a Big Dig day in a bid to add an extra dimension to our little patch of Somerset.
This initiative had been spearheaded by Lucy from the Den and looked to raise a greater depth of understanding and awareness of the importance of health and wellbeing of children. With this in mind and to tie in with the recently promoted Tree Charter, (an initiative led by the Woodland Trust to highlght the importance of trees, woodland and forests for the health and wellbeing of all) we ordered some free trees from the Woodland Trust and invited parents and children to come and help plant them. The ethos behind the dig was so that the trees could "grow" with the children (I know! How cute!)
We had a great turnout and lots of eager helpers to dig, plant and water a very special little corner of Free Rangers. The pond is a favourite place for the children to explore but very quickly gets overgrown with nettle, grassy tussocks and bramble, so we asked our gardener Rob to clear it out so we could plant some little trees for present and future children to play amongst.
A big thank you to everyone who came to help. It was great to see so many willing hands, keen to help look after and help Free Rangers grow. We're working towards the next part fo the Department of Healths Healthy Early Years award so watch this space for updates!
Thanks again to everyone who attending, it was really appreciated and we hope to hold some more family events soon! Watch this space, but in the meantime, if you have any good ideas to get the Free Rangers families together, let us know!
Thank you for reading!
