It’s that time of year again when we say hello to our new children and goodbye to our older children as we move into new rooms. Don’t panic yet, the official moving date won’t be until September but already we have started looking at our transitions and movers.
Madi and Soraya have recently taken on a ‘Baby tool kit’ which looks at different sections of The Hive and focusses on ways to reflect on practice. One of the main objectives bought up was transitions from the Hive into the Burrow. Of course this is something we are always working on but this gave us the real motivation to sit down and put our heads together and think of ways we can achieve this.
The Burrow’s forest school sessions for the rest of July will be based in the Hive garden. Here I will set up forest school activities for all children to access. So far it’s been a great way of spending time with our current children and getting to know our new Burrowers. When in the Hive garden we’ve been getting down to their level, splashing in the water and using the big slide (which the current Burrow children have LOVED). Some of the children who attend nursery a few days a week seemed to have already gotten to know me which will help when it comes to transitioning.
In August your child will have a set day within their week to attend their new room. Soraya, Madi and Tam have been busy looking at names and calendars to find out which days the children can attend settling-ins. In the Burrow we will be having a few stay and plays with our new children and parents to attend. These will be the perfect opportunity to look around the Burrow and get to know your new key person and staff. Please look out for more information on the gates or in the Hive.
In the Burrow we are lucky enough to share our space with the Den, this really does help with the transition process as the children already see the staff and spend time with the children. Also on forest school we spend time with Ed and Jess which will help with their new forest school sessions.
Although it’s a sad time to say goodbye to the children it will be the best step in their development especially if it’s time to start school next year. I’m losing 10 key children so I will be constantly in the Den telling them how much I miss them, even though I’m sure they would have moved on.
As always, if you have any questions or queries about transitioning a member of staffwill be happy to help ☺
Thanks for reading, enjoy a few photos of us invading the Hive garden.
