As we are nearing the start of a new term, many children will be making the move to the next room within Free Rangers and Pre-school staff will begin preparing our older rangers for the move to school, I felt it appropriate to post a blog about transitions.
I often have questions from anxious parents, and it seems for most, it is the parents that worry more than the children (myself included!). At Free Rangers we are very open and staff from other rooms are seen by the children as they pass through rooms, cover lunches and of course in our outdoor areas. This helps to make the transitions easier as children are already familiar with the adults and environments they are moving into. For the children moving onto school we have a great deal of support in place and can tailor the transition process to the individual child. Many teachers come to visit us and we read stories, play games and discuss the move to school during our group times.
I think we have to remember that our children are Free Rangers children, during their time with us they have built confidence, self-esteem and a love for learning that will go with them on their journey. Our children are stronger than we give them credit for and can adapt and progress in ways that will shock us every day. For some there will be bumps in the road but our hugely professional staff has a wealth of experience and knowledge to support each and every child when they need that little cuddle or quiet reassurance. But please trust me when I say it isn’t long before children are up and engaged with peers and they all will be OK. From home it helps if you talk through the transition with your child so that they know you understand they’re moving to another room or onto school and that you’re there to help and support them through the move. In the meantime, if you have any further questions then please do let us know.
