Over the past couple of weeks we have spent time learning the Three Billy Goats Gruff story and during our Forest School sessions this story has received great attention. We were also lucky enough to visit Free Rangers’ own answer to the Three Billy Goats Gruff.
The children have loved visiting the goats during the week, with lots of children going home to tell their parents about what they have seen. Lots of questions were asked like “Where’s the ugly troll?” or “Where do the goats live?” One little boy stood in the field and said that he was in the lush green meadow.
One thing we were focusing on this week in the Burrow is listening to our adults and understanding why it’s important to listen. Before we saw the goats we told the children that we shouldn’t touch the fence so the goats don’t think our fingers were sausages. They understood this really well and ensured they didn’t touch the fence! This all adds towards increasing their independent risk assessment skills.
The chickens are also based near the goats so a few children requested to see them which we were more than happy to accommodate. On the way back to Free Rangers due to all the rain we had the children enjoyed splashing in all the puddles!
Over the past few weeks the children have been really engaged in all the activities involving the Billy Goats Gruff, I wonder what our next story will be.
Thanks for reading.
