This week in the Warren we have been focusing on engaging our brain to be able to solve problems, working through puzzles, trying to complete the wooden shape sorter, and using the number and shape stacking bricks.
When doing the shape puzzle and shape sorter, the babies have developed many new skills, including personal and social development, as they took it in turns to place a puzzle piece into the correct slot. Problem solving by being able to match up the puzzle piece to the correct picture on the puzzle board. Mathematics, communication and language learning. During these activities I talked to the children about the colours and shapes, some of the children were able to repeat some of the names.
When playing with the wooden sacking bricks, that are all different sizes, the babies were able to build a tower with them and then knock them down using language such as “ build”, “tower” and then “uh oh” when they knocked it down. Other babies were able to build a tower using the bricks, being able to put them into size order starting with the biggest one on the bottom then placing smaller ones on top.
To further our development next week we will use different colour bowls and objects to learn colour names and to start to understand categories.
