Here in the Hive over the past two weeks we have been spending lots of time out in the garden accessing a range of activities. We have been providing the children with a range of stimulating activities outdoors. We have been getting creative in the sand pit using both our hands and natural objects to mark make.

So this week in the Nest and Warren we have been out enjoying the sunshine! (That's right, the sunshine!) We've applied lots and lots of suncream over the past few weeks and we now all smell lovely!

Madi and I have flown the Nest, but don't worry we haven't gone far! We have flown over to the farmhouse and into a new nest, which is bigger and brighter and boasts direct access on to the great outdoors. Myself and Madi are very excited and are still nest building and working out how best to use the space, or even how our little ones find fit to use the new space.

On Thursday 31st March many of the Free Rangers team took a day of their holiday to come in to the nursery and give the rooms a spring overhaul. The aim was to review resources and give the rooms a face lift! Orders for new resources have been placed and the staff and children are eagerly awaiting the arrival of toys and materials that will enhance the learning opportunities of the children that attend.

This week in the Warren we have had three learning intentions, like every week the learning intentions come from our learning wheels and they are based on our next steps. The cells on our wheels which are not highlighted green or are orange, means that we are working towards the desired learning outcome.

This week in the Warren we have been getting creative making cards and bird feeders for our Mummy’s. Last week the children had a high interest in mark making using the pens. Cat decided to take this interest and provide a heart template for the children to decorate.

This week we have been spending lots of time in our baby garden enjoying the mud. We have been exploring our mud kitchen using our fine motor skills, scooping up the mud and placing it into our bowls with both metal and wooden spoons to stir it around.

This week in the Warren, we are encouraging the children to dress themselves in order for them to learn their body parts. We are doing this by placing out clothing such as trousers, wellie boots, hats, socks, and t-shirt’s on the floor, then asking the children where various body parts are then pointing to the hat for example, then asking them where it goes.

Last week we found that a lot of the children had a high interest in the newspaper balls that we had put out in the tough spot. They were climbing in and out of the tough spot and using the cardboard boxes provided, then using the newspaper also provided to empty and fill the boxes.

Last week in the Warren, the children loved finding fruit for our hungry caterpillar, which we have in our room. We decided to carry on with this topic but make some changes for this week’s forest school sessions, to keep the children engaged.

Some of you may have seen our Hungry Caterpillar on the far wall in The Warren. The Caterpillar is made out of colourful balloons. The Caterpillar has been our main focus for Forest School this week. Firstly, we got suited and booted ready to go out into the paddock. Some children were able to find our own coats and even able to put our wellies on.
