This week in the Warren, we are encouraging the children to dress themselves in order for them to learn their body parts.
We are doing this by placing out clothing such as trousers, wellie boots, hats, socks, and t-shirt’s on the floor, then asking the children where various body parts are then pointing to the hat for example, then asking them where it goes. This encourages speech, and understanding of simple sentences, as well as them beginning to become more independent in dressing themselves.
We have also got the newspaper and cardboard boxes out again this week due to the high interest in using the newspaper to fill the boxes for emptying and filling.
They are using the newspaper to scrunch up, then fill the boxes up along with an adult as part of a ready steady go game. The adult encourages the children to fill up the boxes by themselves then once the boxes are filled the adult then picks the box up saying “ready steady…..” then only tips the newspaper out once one or some of the children have said “go.”
This is encouraging the children to listen and wait as well as also encouraging speech.
Out in the garden we are using the mud kitchen to mix and stir up some wonderful and exiting foods and drinks. To do this we are dressing the children in to their wetsuits, coats and wellies then strolling out in to the baby garden. We are using bowls, spoons, ladles, plates and wooden spoons to mix and stir and using leaves, grass, mud and sticks to make our soups and foods etc.
You can get involved at home by doing some cooking for yourselves and then letting us know what you have made.
Thank you for reading and have a lovely week. We look forward to hearing what you get up to.
