On Tuesday we dined Italian style, due to children requesting pizza from the previous week. Some of us may think order a Dominoes, visit Pizza Hunt, buy one from the Supermarket. (I do!) Not at Free Rangers….. Valerie provided the children with healthy pizza bases and ingredients:
Pizza base with sweet potato sauce and Engevita yeast flakes
Pizza Toppings: Cows or goat’s cheese, pineapple, ham, tomatoes, sausage, crispy bacon, mushrooms, sweet corn, and peppers. Served with salad leaves.
The lunch time activity promoted an array of learning opportunities; positive Communication skills, Knowledge and Understanding of the World; naming of food produce, developing Fine Motor Skills, as well as providing the children to have ownership of making their very own lunch. The children demolished the Pizza’s and requested the lunch again. Even the challenging customers enjoyed the lunch experience and ate more than they normally would. Valerie was very pleased with the empty plates, positive comments and the smiling faces around Free Rangers when collecting the plates from the room.
All the staff were in dismay as there was none left from them to sample during their lunch breaks….. Valerie provides us all with healthy snacks and lunch. Recently, we have promoted Healthy Eating in our staff room, by providing a Fruit Box for all the staff to help themselves during their working day. Staff are encouraged at snack time to join the children with a piece of fruit. Needless, to say a cheeky chocolate cake, Peanut Balls do sneak into the staff room… mostly provided by Jemma in the Burrow. Although they are naughty …rumour has it they are very nice!!!
We would love to see you home-made pizza’s on the Free Rangers website…. Happy Cooking!!! ………….. - Watch this space -
Have a good evening!
