A couple of weeks ago on a wet and soggy Monday morning (which we obviously all don't mind as we love splashing in muddy puddles!) All the Hive staff walked into the Hive and noticed a few changes had been made...
Over the weekend one of Jayne and Charlottes friends had been in working their magic to create and put together a wonderful cosy area/den for the babies also known as a Pear Pod. The Pear Pod was created to fit in the corner of the Nest, and has two entrances/exits one bigger than the other (so that the members of staff are able to climb in and out of it using the bigger entrance.)
t first the babies were very unsure about the new cosy area that had entered the Hive. One of the older children from the Warren was first to enter, who started to explore using their sense of touch as they felt the willow that was woven around to create the Pear Pod. Quickly followed by another one of the Warren children who explored using their sight, as they both began to play peek-a-boo with one another.
Slowly but surely all the Hive babies have all been exploring the Pear Pod, the younger babies have been using it as an area to go and sit whilst they drink their milks and the older babies have been using it as a physical activity, by climbing in and out of it - up and down a step. Also bending and crouching to climb in and out of the smaller entrance/exit.
After the first week of having the pear pod, I noticed that a lot of the babies were using this place as a cosy area and were getting comfort from going to have lie down and rest in it. So I decided to get some fairy lights and put up inside. So far they've been a big hit now when the babies go to lie down and have a rest a lot just relax and look up at the twinkly lights.
The Pear Pod has been a great way to use some of our senses including sight, smell and touch. As when it was first fitted a lot of the babies enjoyed touching the woven Willow. The smell of the Willow was very strong to begin with and you could smell it as you entered the Hive.
