This week in the Warren we have been getting creative making cards and bird feeders for our Mummy’s. Last week the children had a high interest in mark making using the pens. Cat decided to take this interest and provide a heart template for the children to decorate. The children had an arrange of colours to choose from. We developed our fine motor skill by independently taking the pen lids off, some of the children were able to place the pen lid back on by pushing them on securely.
A few of the children were able to match the coloured lid to the correct coloured pen. Some of us used our whole hand to hold the pen bringing in to the paper to make marks. A few children were able to hold the pen using a tripod grip to make marks. Some of the children were able to pull the pen in a downward position and make a line, others used a side to side motion to make marks. Other children took part in this activity and were engaged for around 15 minutes.
On our Forest School session’s we have been developing our gross motor skills by mixing and scooping. We have been making bird food, by mixing together melted lard and bird seeds. We used the spoon to scoop the mixture into a cup as a mould, we had string running through the middle of the cup so when the mixture had set we would be able to hang it on a tree, for the birds. Some of the children were able to scoop and place the mixture into the cup independently others needed a helping hand. After filling up the cup with the mixture some of the children were able to use their tiny fingers to pat the mixture down. We placed our cups filled with the mixture into the fridge to set. After a few hours of being in the fridge we took them out and removed them from the mould, the children watched as I demonstrated this. I then held them up to show them what they had created. We then talked about taking them home and asking our mummy’s or Daddy’s to help us hang them on a tree near our home, and keeping an eye out for when the birds visit.
We would love to see pictures of your bird feeders at home.
Have a good weekend!
