This week in the Warren, we decided to rearrange the baby garden and create an obstacle course for the babies. We have created stepping stones with tree stumps and crates, a balancing beam which is just off the ground, and then they were able to walk over the bridge before going down the slide.
The babies have shown lots of interest in our new obstacle course, with the slide definitely being a favourite! Creating an obstacle course for the babies can be a fun way for them to practice their climbing, balancing and jumping movements. All these movements encourage their gross motor skills. It also allows them to challenge themselves and manage their own risks.
In the Warren we have also been getting ready for Halloween by carving and exploring our own pumpkin. This has given the babies the opportunity to use their senses to investigate the smell and the gooey textures of the inside of the pumpkin. They also enjoyed scooping out the seeds with spoons and by using their hands, which meant we got very messy! We also talked about the colour of the outside of the pumpkin.
We have also been making Halloween pictures of spiders using crepe paper and pipe cleaners. The babies have been using glue sticks and then they used their fingers to pick out small pieces of paper to stick on to paper plates. You can see our lovely spider pictures which have been displayed on the wall as you come into the Warren.
Happy Halloween!
