Floating away

Last week In the Warren we got very creative, using glue, crayons and glitter to decorate sails for our tinfoil boats. Firstly our Early Year’s Practitioners Lou, Abbie and Cat cut out tiny triangles for the children to use. We talked about the shape, size and how many sides the sails had. We then used our fine motor skills to hold the crayons to mark -mark on our sail’s. We used our palmer grasp to hold a glue stick in our hand, some of the children pushed the glue stick side to side and others pulled the glue stick in the air and then repeatedly pressed it down onto the paper. We then used our tripod grip to pick up glitter and tiny sparkly stars, we watched closely as we released our fingers and the sparkles fell onto our sail. We then had the choice of what colour pipe cleaner we would like as a mast, pink, green, yellow, blue, orange or purple to choose from. Some of the older babies were able to name the colours.  We liked to explore the texture and the feel of the pipe cleaners, they are soft and fluffy.

Our Early Year’s Practitioners then created a bowl like shape out of tinfoil. We used a piece of clay using our tiny fingers to press the clay in place. Our boats were beautiful and complete…… Ready to sail away.

We jumped into our waterproofs and wellies ready to go on a hunt around the farm for puddles.  We ran outdoors with excitement. We quickly found puddles with all this rain we have had lately. We placed our boats into the puddles and watched as they floated away. One of the older children suggested blowing on the boats to increase movement. Some of the other children enjoyed exploring the puddles in different ways. Running, jumping and stomping. The children loved watching their Early Year’s Practitioner jumping in the puddles seeing the water fly up into the air. The children laughed at the sight of this especially when the water splashed us in the face.

In the Warren we are never happier than being outdoors, it would be really lovely to see some of the outdoor fun you get up to with your little ones. Please feel free to bring in pictures and tell us about your adventures.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

Lou
