In the Warren we have a new hand washing system and we have been encouraging the children to wash their hands independently. By doing this it is preparing the children for the Burrow and taking a role in their own care and hygiene.
When we wash our hands, we sing our ‘washing hands’ song.
“Wash our dirty hands, wash our dirty hands, rub and scrub and rub and scrub and wash our dirty hands.”
All of the children enjoy washing their hands whilst singing the song.
The new hand system is a portable sink, which can be moved around in front of each child while they are sat at the table. The sink has a small tap which the children are able to turn on and off themselves. The sink is used before every snack and meal time.
We are really pleased with the children’s reactions and even before the sink is brought out of the kitchen the children begin to do the actions and start saying ‘wash hands’. This is encouraging the children’s language as they are associating it with the actions they have to do while washing their hands.
