This week in the Warren we have been getting creative in the paddock, using natural materials, water and pots and pans to make porridge.
We have been developing our knowledge of the surrounding looking at the different grasses, plants and trees. We collected grasses, leafs and flowers using our fine motor skills to carefully pick them, we then took them over to our role play area that we set up out in the paddock. We had pots, pans, spoons, sticks, bowls and cups.
We placed the natural materials into the pots and pans, using the sticks to mix it around, we then poured water into the pans using two hands to carefully pour. Some of the children used their fingers to pull the petals off of the flower and then sprinkled them into the pans. Other children used the cups to transfer the leafy mixture to and from. Other children enjoyed exploring the paddock walking through the long grass and feeling the tickly leaves.
Some of the children developed their communication by talking to me about what they were doing “making porridge” and were able to name some of the equipment and materials that we used. Others used describing words such as “cold” and “wet”.
All of the children took part in this activity and they were all engaged for a long period of time.
