This week in the Burrows Forest School sessions we have been focusing on construction and looking at what we can build, using bricks, wooden blocks and plastic milk crates.

Before we started our session we spoke about our safety when it comes to building, what might happen if we build it too high, where a safe place would be to push over a tower? I also shown the children our bricks, asking them to hold them and see how heavy they are.

It was then time to commence our construction, most of the children went straight for the wooden blocks. We managed to get the children talking and telling us what they’re going to build, some ideas were rockets, towers and even Elsa and Ana (the clump of bricks photo). Whilst building the children had really good ideas and imagination on what they are going to build and thinking of new ideas as the built. Leo (who is three) loves trains and when I asked him what he is going to be building he says “Choo Choo”. When I look back around Leo has built a long line of bricks, it looks really good and I can really see Leo’s imagination.

After the activity it was time to pack away, the children were very helpful and didn’t need much enthusiasm to tidy away. Once we had tidied we had some time left so we decided to play a few games (hide and seek, shark attack) and explore the surroundings of the cabin.

This week was a big hit with the children and as always I couldn’t be prouder of them,
