Under the archway we set up lots of old and worn out pots, bowls, pans, spoons and spatulas. The Burrow children explored making and creating lots of different noises and sounds using the objects available.

As part of the EYFS, expressing arts and design; exploring and using media and materials, some statements are “creates sounds by shaking, tapping or blowing; shows an interest in the way musical instruments sounds; explores and learns how sounds can be changed”

Lots of our Burrowers being very involved and focused in this activity. There was one particular time where all the pots and pans were upside down. E was busy tapping and banging away the bottom of the pans. He then came to a pot which was upside down, but beside the pot was the lid. E turned the pot back up the right way, placed the lid back on and started to bag the lid. This then created a higher pitched noise from all the other pots and pans. Some children turned some of the pots and pans over so there was always a different pitch.

F also began to copy my rhythm, for example when I tapped the bowl twice, he would copy. We then came up with our own rhythm.

Of course the banging and tapping didn’t just stay within the pots and pans, we had some children tap and bag the wooden door frame, plastic boxes and even the floor! The possibilities are endless!
