Over the last couple of weeks we have said goodbye to some Burrowers, who have either moved on to the Den or moved on to their own exciting adventure. However, we have welcomed our new children from the Hive as well as brand new children and our older Burrow children have given them a helping hand in settling in!

his week in the Burrow we have continued to get into the Halloween spirit and here’s a couple of things we have been up to. On Monday morning Soraya brought us in a pumpkin which we held, smelt and explored. We cut out a lid and had a look inside. Along with some spoons the Burrow children scooped out the pumpkin seeds and soft inside.

We can literally make anything creative, mainly because the children take the lead and they have a knack of seeing the world differently. As we all know we take any weather in our stride and make sure it doesn’t stop us, so on go our waterproofs, wellies and even at times, our sun hats! Soraya’s recent blog post had filled you all in about our recent “story making” story, We’re going on a penguin hunt and over the past few weeks we’ve been getting very creative in the Burrow. We decided to use our feet to create our own penguins. We moved all the tables and furniture aside in the burrow, took off our shoes and socks and got painty!

As of recently Charlotte has been coming up with some weekly challenges for the staff to do. For example, the one before “the biggest splash” was the “swivel chair challenge” – well you can imagine!

As the cold weather is starting to arrive and the leaves are beginning to fall, the Burrow have gone into Autumn mode. Over the weekend Soraya took a long walk around Victoria Park in Bath and Tiff ventured around Wells enjoying some family time, they both came across lots of autumn time bits and bobs which they collected for the Burrow children, so on Monday morning we had two bags full of leaves, conkers, pine cones, hazelnuts, acorns, brazil nuts, almond nuts and walnuts.

It’s that time of year again when the blackberry bushes are in full swing and everyone in the area of Welton (including all the staff and children at Free Rangers!) are out to pick them! Last week and over the past few days when we have been venturing out on Forest School we have noticed some Blackberry bushes around the farm, paddock and orchard.

We are still in full swing of our pirate bonanza in the Burrow and over the past couple of weeks we have gone 2D! We used some cardboard boxes which we started to decorate using paint brushes and sponges as the main walls of our ship, however before long the shoes and socks were off and our feet were dunked in the paint trays

Under the archway we set up lots of old and worn out pots, bowls, pans, spoons and spatulas. The Burrow children explored making and creating lots of different noises and sounds using the objects available.
