Happy Halloween – Part 2!

November 7, 2016 Nicola Gass

This week in the Burrow we have continued to get into the Halloween spirit and here’s a couple of things we have been up to.

On Monday morning Soraya brought us in a pumpkin which we held, smelt and explored. We cut out a lid and had a look inside. Along with some spoons the Burrow children scooped out the pumpkin seeds and soft inside. This was a perfect opportunity to explore the inside of the pumpkin. We picked out the seeds, we squished them between our fingers and mixed them in bowls. Next, we spoke about what we could carve out on the pumpkin – we spoke about whether the pumpkin would be a happy pumpkin, or a scary pumpkin. The children chose a happy pumpkin. So we used triangle eyes, an upside down triangle nose and a big happy mouth! Soraya had brought in little electric tea light candles which we could to light up our pumpkin with a warm glow!

Soraya made us some black and orange playdough. We used some creepy crawly bugs and small mammals – like centipedes, mice, spiders and scorpions along in the playdough too.

We dipped our hands in paint to make some spiders and ghosts. We used black paint to print on white paper to make spiders and white paint on black paper to make ghosts. The children added googly eyes to add their own personal touch to their pictures. We’ve hung our pictures along our washing lines and on the Burrow door. We have also made some spider web pictures, we drizzled PVA glue from a height whilst moving our hand around in the air to produce different patterns on our paper. We then shook some sparkly glitter over our glue to light up our webs.

Also, with firework night creeping upon us, we’ve bunched together some pipe cleaners as well as using some paper – (roll up the paper, stick it together with some tape and snip along the bottom) to create our very own firework pictures. Whilst playing we spoke about sounds and colours and our plans over Halloween and Bonfire Night.

We hope you had a wicked Halloween and if you’re going to watch any fireworks – have a lovely time and stay safe!

Thanks

Nic
