A bit of what we’ve been up to…

April 27, 2016 Nicola Gass

We’ve been enjoying the variety of weathers; rain, sunshine, snow and hail! As we all know we take any weather in our stride and make sure it doesn’t stop us, so on go our waterproofs, wellies and even at times, our sun hats! We’ve been exploring our surroundings, spending as much time as possible in the garden and in the paddock.

When the sun has been shining, we’ve got ourselves out in the garden to have our snack, sitting on our wooden pallets or we’ve been out into the paddock with our picnic blankets and after that off we go! We’ve been chasing bubbles around the paddock, climbing the mud hill and going down the slide, playing hide and seek, negotiating the timber trail, the tunnels and so much more. In the garden we’ve played tennis, golf, football and we have been drawing using chalks on the patio in the garden. There has also been lots of singing our new favourite song “Jack and Jill”, we climb up the small hill in the garden singing “Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pale of water…Jack fell down and broke his crown” and at this point all the children roly poly down one side of the hill!

We’ve been busy in the Burrow too, making relationships with new and old friends, creating lots of art work, exploring under the archway using the water play, the role play, balls, guttering. Even an old cardboard box brings us much entertainment, one of the burrowers sat in it and said “It’s my car”, then another child replied “But it needs wheels.” So out came the pens and we drew on some wheels, we cut out a steering wheel and we were on our way!!

A big interest in the Burrow has also been using and mixing different textures. Using simple everyday objects like some bowls, pots and spoons and some simple cupboard ingredients like flour, cornflakes, rice and oats and out comes our imagination. I stood back and watched some of our burrow children explore and play with this activity, I watched a child scoop up some oats and pour them into a big bowl and the child said “here are the raisins”. A staff member walking through the burrow asked the children what they were making and a child responded with so much excitement saying “it’s our cakes!”

It’s been a busy time in the Burrow with so much to play with and explore, it has well and truly tired us out. So we decided to bring up some beds from the sleep room into the Burrow, put on our flute CD and put on our twinkly lights. The children got some cushions from the carpet and cosy corner and laid them on the beds! Even one of our Burrowers fell fast asleep!

Thanks for reading,

Have a happy bank holiday and we will see you all next week with a new extended Burrow!!

Nicola.
