As many of you know at Free Rangers we love to do a range of Forest School activities with every age of children, this varies throughout the rooms (as we wouldn’t recommend fire lighting with the babies!)
In the Nest we love to take part in Forest School activities whether it be going for a lovely long walk along the greenway to see the horses and chickens or filling up the tuft spot with soil and letting the children mark make in it.
But this week we decided to bring the outside in, but in a different way… we have recently had some new babies starting with us, Madi and I decided this would be a great opportunity for the new babies to make some new friends whilst exploring our range of activities that we offer up in the Nest.
So on Monday after we had eaten snack, we left the babies sat up to the table in their chairs, where we placed some items in front of them to make some playdough. First we measured out some flour and salt then poured it into a bowl! We then added some water and oil, to make it a bit more interesting I decided to add some green food colouring and also some mint from our range of plants that we have up in the Nest. We then did the exciting bit! Mixing (and hoping that it turns out how we expected it!) The babies absolutely loved taking part in this!
We decided to add a bit of mint as its bringing the outside in and also it makes the playdough smell delicious (maybe just a bit too delicious as most of the babies all decided that they wanted to explore the playdough with their mouths!)
We’ve also decided to carry this activity on to next week as the babies loved this so much and we are going make purple playdough with lavender – I’m sure the babies will be also giving this a try too (even if it ends up in their mouths!)
