This week we have continued our pirate theme but taken it outside into the paddock on Forest School, I made the children a pirate ship (the fort) with lots of pirate bunting and a big pirate flag!
Before our session began we told the children about our activity, and of course we did this in pirate talk! We told them how there is treasure hiding in the paddock and we have to find it however we need to make a map to take us there (We need to work on Soraya’s ARRRRRR as it’s not Somerset enough!). With this the children got very excited and started to ask where the treasure was and of course we answered “we have to find it”.
When the activity started it was down to the children to draw a treasure map, showing us where to go and where we may find the treasure! We used fine pens so the children could really tell what they had drawn and could make sense out of it. After this we rolled the maps into a telescope to help search far and wide for our treasure, which was a big hit for the pirates! I cut out eye patches for the pirates, most of them were happy to wear them but on their head not over their eyes. It was then off to find the treasure, through the paddock I had placed different pictures for the children to find which linked into our pirate story. Each time we spotted one the children would run straight over and show us what they had found, in our sea storm I chose to go 4D and squirt the children with a little water! Once we arrived at the sea cave it was time to run through and that’s where we found the treasure, a treasure chest with coins in! How amazing, the children were super excited about finding it and so were the adults! We asked the children what we can buy with the treasure, one little boy said “chocolate!!!”.
After the activity we went to tidy up the pirate ship ready for the next session, when arriving back at nursery they couldn’t wait to tell people what we found! It was great to see them so enthusiastic and have such great imaginations... again!! Overall the week went so well that next week we will be sticking to our pirate theme and spending lots of time in our pirate ship, scaring away albatross’ and finding even more treasure! Yippee J
