This week we have been quiet again due to children being on holiday, so our forest school sessions have been low allowing us to make a few trips along the Greenway!
The forest school sessions this week was exploring the Fort and our environment. We started off having our snack in the fort where we spoke about our forest school rules and what activity we have planned for the session. The children did very well at repeating the rules and understanding them.
It was then time to explore! We gave the children hints of what they could do i.e. climbing, looking for bugs and swinging in the hammock which Ed left us. Most of the children preferred to climb, putting our confidence and gross motor skills to the test. On a few days it was wet and the children really surprised me with the way they approached the wet wood, putting their feet at different angles and slowly moving.
Alongside climbing we also hunted for bugs, itβs great to see the children choosing to look for bugs. Lifting up logs, planks of wood and searching in the long grass to see what we can find. We also visited the pond on two sessions to see what we can find, looking for frogs and exploring the water snails.
If you have visited the Greenway recently you would have noticed that there are lots of blackberries growing, we took the opportunity to take a walk along the path to pick some J we explained to the children we donβt pick the green or pink berries, it must be the black berries! They understood this and often tried to eat them without us looking!
Overall we have had a very good week, full with lots of activities, experiences and opportunities for our toddlers. Next week we will be exploring the assault course and testing our gross motor skills on our new and improved timber trail!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Lauren
