Over the last two weeks, we have had lots of new children start in the Warren. Some coming down from the Nest and new children coming from outside of Free Rangers. To help the children settle in and make the transition as easy as we can for them, we have been basing most of our activities on their interests. We gain this information from the “All about me’s” for each individual child and also from seeing what they enjoy to play with during their settling in sessions.
During last week many of the children enjoyed the toddle boxes so we decided to have them out again this week. The children love to balance along the boxes and walk up and down the ramp. We also have a rocking box which the children have loved to sit in, rocking themselves back and forth pretending to be in a boat, and using the steering wheel to be a driver!
As we know the children enjoy sensory play, we have tried different textures this week such as sand and glitter to allow the children to mark make. They have been showing lots of interest in using their hands to create different marks and also using the animals. This mark making activity has been encouraging their fine motor skills as they have been using the pincer grip to pick up the sand and glitter and sprinkle it back on to the table and on the floor!
This week we have also been wrapping up warm and heading out to the paddock, and for walks along the greenway. The children have loved running through the paddock and through the tunnels chasing each other and also jumping in the puddles and getting very muddy!
