What a lovely few days we have had exploring our natural surroundings and making the most of the sunshine! Last week the children loved the timber trail so we decided to carry the planning over to this week.
When we finished our snack I spoke to the children about the timber trail. The main focus was for the children to ask the adults when they needed help. Due to the age of the Burrow children it is common to use noises if we’re stuck instead of asking for help. I gave the children an example of me being stuck, I started to cry, and the children looked at me and said “help”. This gave them the understanding of what help means and why we should ask for help.
After this I wanted to point out that it’s ok to use our hands and knees to help us move along a log or plank if we’re not sure on the height. The children watched me as I clambered down onto all fours and crawled along the trail. For anyone watching this would have been very funny but luckily the children just stared at me in amazement!
The children were then able to freely use the timber trail, starting at the beginning at first then slowly dropping in and out of the trail wherever and whenever they fancied. We saw lots of confidence from our older children and during one session we found that no one needed our guidance as they were so good at doing it themselves! Our newer children showed really good understanding of our timber trail and with lots of practice I’m sure will develop their confidence. The children seemed very interested in our tyre pile, climbing in and wiggling their way out at the bottom.
As the week has gone by we have seen all of our children increasing their understanding and confidence on the timber trail; it has made me feel very proud and lucky to be able to explore with such amazing little people!
