So it’s the start of a new term at Free Rangers and we’ve spent two weeks so far getting to know our new children and spending time with the original Burrow children.

Over the past couple of weeks we haven’t so much been focusing on the activity but more the routine of Forest School. As you may know in The Hive Forest School is a more free flow based activity. When the children come into the Burrow it’s my task to introduce the ‘session’ of Forest School and of course not forgetting the children that have started at Free Rangers who may have never experienced nursery let alone Forest School.

When we get out to the cabin the children sit down and we have snack. Here the children hand their own snack out with the guidance of the adults. On some occasions we have found that the snack may topple onto the floor but we take these risks as they come (don’t worry, back up snack will be used).

The children have been learning or using their knowledge when it comes to our rules and Forest School song. We’ve seen lots of children engaging and showing understanding. They especially love when I pretend to eat something, such as grass, as they can shout NOOOOOOOOOOOO.

So to the activity…. We have very cheeky teddies in the Burrow who like to escape from our room. Sometimes we have to find them as they get a little lost and want to return. We tell the children what animal we have to find and see who can find it. With this activity brings the understanding of our 123 rule. We have been walking around the paddock shouting “123 where are you” or “where are you froggy”. Finally once we have found them we cuddle them all the way back to nursery. It was also a great activity for sharing as some children would find all the teddies before others… so we took a step back and let others find them.

What a lovely couple of weeks we have had back. I’m now looking forward to see the children blossom over the Forest School session and watch the progress that happens before me.
