This week we have spent time on the mud hill rolling pinecones. Already on the forest school sessions the younger children and new children have shown a great understanding of our session and our rules. We’re sitting down better and voicing their thoughts and opinions more when discussing things.
After snack we headed to the mud hill where we were greeted by a big hill, mud and a slide. Most of the children were quick enough to climb the hill straight away. A few children needed a little encouragement as sometimes it takes a little while to get used to having muddy hands when climbing. Once we were up the top we grabbed some pinecones from our basket and started rolling them down.
The achievements that I was wanting to see this week were climbing the mud hill and testing our rolling techniques. A few children threw the pinecones and needed a little reminding of how we roll, getting down low and using our hands to push (gravity really helped when at the top).
Of course the children are never made to do an activity so they had the choice of either sliding down the slide or running around in the long grass. This really got us moving in the cold weather and gave us lots of enjoyment from zooming down the slide. At Christmas I was a very good girl and got a FitBit. The children are loving me having this as it means they get to chase me more when I’m running!
If you have any questions about forest school or want to know our activities through the weeks please don’t hesitate to ask me.
