Hi Free Rangers family! My name is Paloma, which means “Dove” in Spanish.
Ever since I first heard of Freerangers I was curious about this very special place. I’m so excited to be part of the team and to be working with children with a Forest School approach. I was born in Colombia and in my 20’s moved to Mexico, where I spent 9 years loving the culture and the food. Life brought me to England 10 years ago. I’m married to a British national and we have 4 children. Yes, that is a very busy household with lots of cooking, laughter and learning.
I have a BA in Literature and a Diploma in Children’s Literature. I love the therapeutic benefits of books and storytelling, particularly the use of fairy tales. Fairy tales are an important part of my life, they answer eternal questions, they support children’s moral development and they boost their imagination.
For the last 10 years, I have been busy becoming a Children’s Therapist. I did an initial training in Systemic Therapy to become a Children and family Counsellor; always interested in supporting children through the understanding of the child’s own family system. In 2016 I gained an MA in Childhood and Youth, which gave me a solid basis to understand children’s complex needs in the UK. I’m currently a registered trainee in Play Therapy (PTUK) and I believe that children with mild to moderate behaviour difficulties can be helped through the therapeutic use of different forms of play.
My character is vibrant yet relaxed. I love to ask questions and understand children’s behaviour.
I strongly believe in the importance of creating kind and emotionally safe interactions with children that help them to navigate this complex world.
Thank you for taking time to read about me.
Paloma
