To follow on from last week’s planning which was to post postcards through our toy post box in the Warren. We decided this week we would go on a post box journey to post their own postcards.
Firstly the children decorated their post cards using crayons to make marks on them this enabled them to have their own individual post card which they could post to their home. We then took four children at a time on a journey to find the red post box. On our way we came across cars, people and sometimes dogs, this enabled the children to see life outside Free Rangers and how the environment is much different from our nursery.
We also came across road safety when on our journey to the post box, a practitioner held the hands of the two children all the way to the post box and back but we also waited at junctions and looked left and right looking for cars waiting for the road to be clear. All the way on our journey we talked about the colour of the post box, so the children were learning what colour we were looking out for. We also talked about road safety constantly saying several words e.g. waiting, stop, cars, people, dogs this enabled the children to hear, listen and learn for future experiences.
