This week we have been exploring and creating friendly pumpkins. The children have had a strong exploratory impulse this week exploring different textures of the pumpkin, the smooth outer skin, the slimy fleshy inner and the slippery seeds.

The children have been using their gross motor skills to scoop out the inner of the pumpkin using a metal spoon. They have also used their fine motor skill to pick up the seeds, which they used a high level of concentration to be able to hold the seeds without them slipping through their fingers.

The children watched me cut out the triangular shapes for the pumpkins eyes and nose, then I cut out a smile and placed an electrical tea light into the pumpkin. We then turned the lights off where the children were able to enjoy the sensory experience of the lit pumpkins.
