Due to the high temperatures over the past week, in the Nest we have been trying our best to stay cool and have FUN! Not only has it been hot and sunny outside, but also very hot inside.
When temperatures are high the babies have found it hard to control their body temperature efficiently, and many have become uncomfortable and irritable.
In the Nest we have tried to enjoy the heat by offering various activities around water play. This provided opportunities to investigate pouring, simple measuring and floating objects. These included various sized cups, sponges and balls. We added bubble bath and the babies loved to splash which in turn kept them cool.
Some of the babies where confident to climb into the water tray, while others pulled themselves up on the side, leaning so they could play with their hands. This was a fantastic opportunity for the babies to fully experience water without the fear of getting cold.
We have also been encouraging the babies to drink plenty of water, and when outside to wear sun cream, hats and stay in the shade as much as possible to avoid getting sunburn or dehydration.
