The babies in the Warren enjoyed blackberry picking so much last week that we decided to carry on going blackberry picking again this week. Instead of eating them for snack, we decided to create blackberry paint and create some pictures for a new display.
We walked around the farm and picked as many blackberries as we could so that we had plenty to make paint with. (Although some did end up in our tummies along the way!). We carried on talking about how we should only eat the black ones and not the green and red ones as they would give us a poorly tummy. We also looked for sticks as we went around the farm to help us make our pictures.
We squashed the blackberries and then added flour to make the mixture thicker and also help it to stick to the paper.
The children loved getting very messy with the blackberries, using the sticks to squash and spread the blackberries on to the paper to create different markings. Although we had the sticks, the children seemed to prefer using their hands to explore the different textures, which meant they ended up being covered in a purple blackberry mess!
