As December arrived in the Burrow so did lots of magic and sparkles, this was a great opportunity to get the children’s imaginations working in the Burrow! I don’t know if you’ve heard about ‘elf on the shelf’, he’s a very special elf that has been sent from Father Christmas to watch over the children.

Over the past 3 weeks the main focus in the Burrow has been fire lighting, looking at all our different components of fire and what we need to build this up. I believe that the children understand the true meaning of a fire and I hope at home you can see this in your children too!

Fire lighting has been such a big activity at the moment on forest school, with no signs of the children ever wanting to stop. Just this morning a little boy asked me “Lauren, lighting fires please?”.

This week has seen us exploring the barn environment at Free Rangers, during the half term Ed has ‘big girls’ and boys’ for holiday club. They tend to use the upper space of the paddock, leaving us with the assault course, mud hill and pond area.

This week the Burrow have been able to explore the pond and it’s natural surroundings. Luckily the weather has been on our side during the week, which has allowed to us venture out with no waterproofs on! However we have needed lots of layers, as it’s been a little chilly in the mornings.

This week we have continued our pirate theme but taken it outside into the paddock on Forest School, I made the children a pirate ship (the fort) with lots of pirate bunting and a big pirate flag!

This week in the Burrows Forest School sessions we have been focusing on construction and looking at what we can build, using bricks, wooden blocks and plastic milk crates. Before we started our session we spoke about our safety when it comes to building, what might happen if we build it too high, where a safe place would be to push over a tower?

This week the toddlers really have shown us how well and how long they can sit and concentrate on one activity, they have made us super proud and it’s so lovely to think we have helped make them who they are today!

Hello everyone. We’ve been exploring using natural materials this week, talking about what we can draw and looking at what we’ve made with our marks. A few weeks ago we explored making fires using our fire steel and cotton wool, so to continue with our fire theme we’ve decided to mark making using charcoal.

This week we have been able to allow the Burrow children do an activity that they have never done before, this has given the children enthusiasm and confidence to do things that might not have crossed their mind yet! We have been very privileged this week to have Lou out on Forest School with us (Lou is Forest School trained which I will be starting in September, how exciting!!), and what have we been doing… lighting fires!!!

This week in Forest School has been a little more exciting than normal, we have been able to use Loppers! Lou (from the Warren) did our planning this week and thought it would be a really good idea to test the children’s gross motor skills using their strength and grip!
