Bobbing up and down

March 5, 2016 Lauren

Last week was a big success with our Pirate Ship, so this week we have been focusing on which of our toys float and which ones sink. Before we headed to our location I showed the children two picture cards with writing on, one card said floating and the other said sinking. We then discussed what we could see.

Finding friends for our caterpillar!

February 9, 2016 Abbie Clarke

Last week in the Warren, the children loved finding fruit for our hungry caterpillar, which we have in our room. We decided to carry on with this topic but make some changes for this week’s forest school sessions, to keep the children engaged.

Forest School and maths for babies!

February 4, 2016 Jade Edgell

This week in the Nest we've been focusing on awareness of simple mathematical concepts and number names. This includes recognising big and small things in meaningful context, developing an awareness of number names through action ryhmes and songs, getting to know and enjoy the Nest's daily routines, has some understanding that things still exist when out of sight.

This is the way we pull the pulley…

January 21, 2016 Lauren

It’s been lovely to see the children’s confidence grow throughout the week on Forest School; already I can see our new children learning our Forest School rules and understanding what Forest School in the Burrow entails.

Exploring winter

January 21, 2016 Lauren

Brrrr… what a cold week it has been! Last week on Friday we experienced ice - and for some children this may have been the first time they can remember seeing ice. This is when I thought exploring ice and the main factors of winter would be a great opportunity, and it would also link in nicely with our ‘Penguin Hunt’ story which has started in the Burrow.

We’ve been using a hand drill and bow saw...

January 11, 2016 Lauren

This week it has been lovely to see our new and old children back after a brilliant Christmas week off; and I can assure you that the children slipped straight back into nursery life with ease. On forest school we have been able to use a bow saw and hand drill this week; for some of the children this is the first encounter they would have had with a saw and drill.

Crafting for Christmas' Sake

December 19, 2015 RedFox

When dressing the Harding family Christmas Tree, I smile when unwrapping the brightly coloured Papier-mâché hearts and stars that have been so carefully crafted by myself and my siblings in our earliest educational years...

Magical fairies in the paddock

December 8, 2015 Lauren

As December arrived in the Burrow so did lots of magic and sparkles, this was a great opportunity to get the children’s imaginations working in the Burrow! I don’t know if you’ve heard about ‘elf on the shelf’, he’s a very special elf that has been sent from Father Christmas to watch over the children.

It’s an end to fire lighting

November 25, 2015 Lauren

Over the past 3 weeks the main focus in the Burrow has been fire lighting, looking at all our different components of fire and what we need to build this up. I believe that the children understand the true meaning of a fire and I hope at home you can see this in your children too!

1,2,3 where are you?

Fire lighting has been such a big activity at the moment on forest school, with no signs of the children ever wanting to stop. Just this morning a little boy asked me “Lauren, lighting fires please?”.

We don’t touch the fire….

November 11, 2015 Lauren

Carrying on from our fire lighting last week I thought that a bigger fire which will burn for longer will give the children even more opportunity to understand the real meaning of fire safety. We managed to link in again the very popular “three little pigs” story; which many parents have been telling us their child adores!

Lets sail away...

October 21, 2015 Lauren

This week the Burrow have been able to explore the pond and it’s natural surroundings. Luckily the weather has been on our side during the week, which has allowed to us venture out with no waterproofs on! However we have needed lots of layers, as it’s been a little chilly in the mornings.
