Last week was a big success with our Pirate Ship, so this week we have been focusing on which of our toys float and which ones sink. Before we headed to our location I showed the children two picture cards with writing on, one card said floating and the other said sinking. We then discussed what we could see.

Last Thursday we had a lovely treat from Emma Trantham (a mummy in the Burrow) who came into nursery to play us her flute! Once we had said our hello song we beckoned to the Warren who were on their way that Emma had arrived.

The sun has been shining and the children have been smiling, what a lovely week we have had in the Burrow! As some of you may know I’m currently doing my Level 3 Forest School course, this involves planning sessions for the children and evaluating into the next week plan.

As I'm sure all of our Burrower parents are aware, last week the Burrow turned into a festival of celebration for Chinese New Year. We thought it would be lovely to expose the children to Chinese New Year and what a success it was; the children beamed from the experience!

Soraya’s recent blog post had filled you all in about our recent “story making” story, We’re going on a penguin hunt and over the past few weeks we’ve been getting very creative in the Burrow. We decided to use our feet to create our own penguins. We moved all the tables and furniture aside in the burrow, took off our shoes and socks and got painty!

It’s been lovely to see the children’s confidence grow throughout the week on Forest School; already I can see our new children learning our Forest School rules and understanding what Forest School in the Burrow entails.

I’m so pleased to be back after Christmas! No, honestly I am! Firstly I’m delighted that all of the children who moved to the Den are settling in well. I’m also pleased that my existing Burrowers have returned full of energy with a thirst for learning

Brrrr… what a cold week it has been! Last week on Friday we experienced ice - and for some children this may have been the first time they can remember seeing ice. This is when I thought exploring ice and the main factors of winter would be a great opportunity, and it would also link in nicely with our ‘Penguin Hunt’ story which has started in the Burrow.

It’s the first week in December and Christmas has officially hit the Burrow and the countdown can begin. As December arrived in the Burrow so did lots of magic and sparkles, this was a great opportunity to get the children’s imaginations working in the Burrow! I don’t know if you’ve heard about ‘elf on the shelf’, he’s a very special elf that has been sent from Father Christmas to watch over the children.

The only way I could describe the staff weekly challenge last week is using one word and one word only – muddy! As of recently Charlotte has been coming up with some weekly challenges for the staff to do. For example, the one before “the biggest splash” was the “swivel chair challenge” – well you can imagine!

Over the past 3 weeks the main focus in the Burrow has been fire lighting, looking at all our different components of fire and what we need to build this up. I believe that the children understand the true meaning of a fire and I hope at home you can see this in your children too!

Most definitely not the children in the Burrow! As you know the children have been learning our version of the traditional story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’. Each day they have listened to members of the Burrow staff reciting the story.

Fire lighting has been such a big activity at the moment on forest school, with no signs of the children ever wanting to stop. Just this morning a little boy asked me “Lauren, lighting fires please?”.

Carrying on from our fire lighting last week I thought that a bigger fire which will burn for longer will give the children even more opportunity to understand the real meaning of fire safety. We managed to link in again the very popular “three little pigs” story; which many parents have been telling us their child adores!
